The Northern Sector Action on Awareness Center (NORSAAC) is a gender based advocacy organisation taking sides with women. The organisation which has gained national level recognition started as a community based organisation mobilizing the youth to discuss and find possibly ways of addressing HIV/AIDS issues in schools and communities in early parts of 2002.
Within the early part of 2003, management, staff, board and beneficiaries of the organisation restructured it to focus more on Reproductive Health issues and Women Rights and Governance. The revised idea was also to work directly with our beneficiaries and schools especially at the community level. This will enable us to deepen the governance process and ensure effective participation of women and other vulnerable groups , while Reproductive Health is still a core developmental issue.
NORSAAC therefore adopted advocacy and campaigning, networking and partnership, awareness creation and sensitization, strengthening capacity and community mobilization as the five key strategies in achieving its objectives.
The organisation is operating as a non-profit and non-partisan NGO, duly registered with Registrar General’s Department with registration number G.13, 250 and Department of Social Welfare both in Accra. In order to facilitate its youth activities, the organisation has also been duly registered with the National Youth Council (NYC)
